Thanks to all for the help.  Most of you hit the problem on the head (and
probably wish you could have done the same to me.  Grin.)  I was looking at
a 256 color .gif, therefore the problem, though I could have sworn it was
the same in the 16 million color .jpeg.  Anyhoo...The .jpegs (16 million
colors) still offer only "buttonize" for PSP effects.  HOWEVER, *all* of the
"Eye Candy Plug-In" effects are enabled.  So I'm satisfied.  

Thanks very much!  The sun is shining in my cubicled little heart again,
I've dropped the sharp objects and may make it to the weekend after all!  :)
