For a photograph, I would agree with you, Bart. For a logo design, it may be
easier to do it the way I suggested though.  It all depends on the image
format and how pixelated the image will be if the hue and saturations are
altered... And even then, by adjusting the corresponding levels, it will work
fine.  However, your way is certainly an option as well.

 If I wanted to colorize a photo, I'd use a different method. What I'd do
 is put in a new layer over the one to be colored, group it (Ctrl+G), color
 it with the shade I want the photo to be colored in, and then change the 
 layer's mode to color.  >>
