Gradient question

I am trying to do a gradient in Photoshop 4.0 for a large NASA project.  I
made this background for the intranet pages.  I would like to know if it
is possible to remove the vertical "lines" that show up in the gif file.

This shows you a page with the background loaded.  Sorry this is off my
