Unfortunately, this is not always the case.  Recently while working on a
customer's machine, I noticed he had a brand new Packard Bell 200+ MHz
computer, but his screen was 640x480 at 256 colors.  I asked him about it
and he said "That's the way it came."  I thought he was going to kiss me
when I set it to 1024x768 with 16 million colors.  He didn't even realize
that was an option.
