I presume you mean 72 points, which would be approximately one inch
(actually somewhat smaller, as characters do not typically fill the entire
~cell~).

There are two issues here, being able to print characters that large, and
wanting to do so. By that I mean that most fonts are designed for text, and
generally look best at smaller sizes. In contrast, there are headline
fonts, designed to look good in larger sizes, and which will likely give
you much more satisfying results. You'll find an assortment of such fonts
available from any of the type foundries and distributors.

As far as being able to print them, I just gave it a try with a Windows
system (NT 4.0 SP 3), printing a word at 144 pt. Tried three different
fonts, and used Word, Powerpoint, and Photoshop. All worked quite nicely...
maybe not as tastefully as I mighty prefer (they are text rather than
headline fonts, grin) They each printed with the expected height.

Perhaps there is a limitation of the printer driver for the printer you are
using, or something related to that. Perhaps.
