OT: Subclassing CSS syntax

Hi,

I have a problem.  I want to give my menu links their own link style.  
However, I cannot find what the syntax in the stylesheet should be, if the 
menu is given the class "menu"

Is the syntax:
.menu.a:visited
.menu:a.visited
a:visited.menu
???

Can anyone point me to a good web site on this?
