Have you tried opening the image in IE3.02 on the old computer and
selecting "Save As" from the menu system?  From there, you could save them
directly to floppy instead of copying the files themselves.  If IE 3.02
can see them, you might have better luck.

BTW, I have no idea why this would happen to you, unless they are actually
jpg images saved as whatever.gif.
