pages in textsby "Frank Boumphrey" <bckman(at)ix.netcom.com> |

I am struggeling with the etext of the scarlet letter. The problem is that the Etext retains the original page numbering. As others have pointed out the 'page' element in the bookfrag.dtd is not up to the task. What we need is a 'pagenum' element that can not only appear between paragraphs, but also in paragraphs. IOW we need to modify the general entities as follows <!ENTITY % inline.class "|quote|emph|ital|reference|date|place|name|graphic|txterr|mkuperr|misc|page num "> <!ENTITY % block.class "|letter|blockquote|footnote|note|list|deflist|table|blockgraphic|pagenum"> And pagenum is declared as <!ELEMENT pagenum (#PCDATA)> As we have frozen the DTD's, and as will be a good three months before we get out our 'official' dtd's I am going to put yet another interim dtd up on the web site which will incorporate these changes. I will call it gutbkplaypg1.dtd the module is bkplaypg.dtd download them from www.hwg.org/opcenter/gutenberg/xmlfiles They will be 'open' for modification for the next month. I would be grateful for stress testing of them! Frank
