F/TIME: Technical Writer - Redwood City, CA

Primary Responsibility

Write conceptual overviews, procedural materials, and detailed reference
sections documenting a suite of wireless applications, working with
information gleaned from source code, provided by engineers, or discovered
from test programs. Collaborate with publications, engineering, product
management, and other departments to plan and produce online and printed
instructional materials.

Qualifications

=A7 At least seven years of experience in the computer industry writing
conceptual, procedural, and reference materials for network and system
administrators for UNIX (Solaris)

=A7 Superior writing skills demonstrated through writing samples

=A7 Good working knowledge of FrameMaker and standard graphics, writing, and
online documentation tools

=A7 Excellent project management skills and ability to meet deadlines

=A7 Ability to collaborate with other members of the documentation team,
including illustrators, designers, editors, and other writers

=A7 Experience creating and maintaining tools for team writing projects,=
 such
as templates, style sheets, schedules, and documentation plans

The strongest candidates for this position will also have:

=A7 Familiarity with Web technology

=A7 Ability to understand and write sample code in an object-oriented
programming language (such as C++) or scripting language (such as
JavaScript)

=A7 Experience writing for software developers

=A7 Experience documenting switching systems, network infrastructure
components, or other telephony products

=A7 Experience with relational databases

=A7 Familiarity with version-control software, bug-tracking systems, and=
 other
software-management tools

=A7 This is a full-time position at Phone.com's offices in Redwood City, CA.
Candidates should be willing to work on site, although some telecommuting is
supported.
