Hello, Jobs List Members: ;-)

Getting this FAQ will confirm the Jobs list is up and
running for those concerned about the low activity of
the list as of late. All is well and working fine! ;-)

This FAQ is sent to all Job List members on the first
Friday of each month to keep you up to date with HWG
information. Keep the most current monthly FAQ in a
convenient location for easy reference to the latest
Guild resources and information on this List. This email
also includes information on how to unsubscribe from
this list.

It is really important that both job seekers /and/ employers
take the time to read this FAQ completely to understand
how the list works as well as how to use it most effectively.
For your information, we include tips on how to submit
and reply to opportunity postings.

If you ever have any questions in regards to how to use
this list or post an opportunity, please do not hesitate to
mail the List Guides. The List Guide Team is always
available to answer your questions about the HWG-Jobs
List. We can be reached by emailing <lg-jobs(at)hwg.org> .

Virtually,
Judith Kallos

1. Mailing List Tips for Job Seekers and Employers
=====================================================

JOB SEEKERS: Be sure read each post carefully and follow the
instructions on how to apply. By not paying close attention to a potential
employer's requests, you will make a poor initial impression. Do not
underestimate the power of your replies in forming a first impression -
spell and grammar check too! The email address to respond to for each
position is noted at the top of each posting for your convenience. By just
hitting your reply button, you will send your information to the List Guide
currently on duty - not the employer. ;-)

Also, remember that by just hitting "reply" you will send your response to
me and risk delaying your information getting to proper parties. The
email address you need to send your responses to are located at the very
top of every post to the list.

EMPLOYERS: Your posting request needs to be submitted in plain text
contained /within an email/. Attachments or formatted submissions will not
be accepted. You will be requested to resend your request causing a
delay in your opportunity being sent to the members of our list.

By providing clear details in your opportunity post including a link to
your site with a more comprehensive description, will greatly assist in
attracting those with the qualifications you seek. Some important points
you need to include in your post:

1. Are these CONTRACT, FULL TIME, PART TIME or VOLUNTEER
positions?

2. Is U.S. Citizenship mandatory or would you sponsor outside visas.

3. Is the physical location of the applicant important or is telecommuting
acceptable? Do they need to be onsite? If so, where is that - specifically?
(City, State, Province, Country)

Searching for that right "person", may actually require several individuals.
Keep in mind that to find ONE individual who programmes in every
language currently in use on the Web, who also happens to be graphically
creative with both Adobe /and/ Corel, knows how to use several editors,
combined with expertise on all server platforms, PCs/Macs and then also
knows marketing and search engines is /very/ rare.

Web/Internet technology includes many separate disciplines. Trends reflect
that those involved in this industry tend to select their areas of expertise
and excel at them. Not to say that there are not those rare few who can
do it all - but they are few and far between! ;-) So, where you may be
searching for one jack-(or jill)of-all-trades, in reality you may have more
success searching for several individuals with specific skill sets.

IMPORTANT: Proofread and spell check your submissions! The List
Guides will not "clean-up" your posts. Modifications due to lack of detail
or clarity in your original post will not be forwarded to the list. While
there
are no limits to the number of jobs you can advertise, the same job may
only be posted once per month, and no more than six times per year.

We do /not/ post your requests on the Guild's Web site. Opportunities
are only forwarded to the HWG Jobs email List. All members subscribed to
the list at the time your post is forwarded will receive a copy.

Each post sent to the list is then archived in the HWG's archives
located at:

<http://www.hwg.org/lists/archives.html>

Employers may want to consider creating a specific email address/account for
member replies only. This allows you to put an autoresponder in place
announcing additional details of this position and Web site URLs for more
information. You can then change your message to notify folks who respond
at a later date when reviewing your post in the archives that the position
is filled.

2.  What are List Guides?
=====================================================

The List Guide Program was created to assist members on the HWG
Mailing Lists to get the most from the lists. We perform the task of helping
the lists get and keep quality, valuable, valid content. In addition, List
Guides provide assistance to all who request it and help enforce the HWG
policies for the mailing lists. Information on the List Guide program can be
found at <http://www.hwg.org/lists/intro.html> .

We are here, always in the background, to assist you with your questions
and concerns. The List Guide program is authorized and endorsed by the
HTML Writers Guild Governing Board. If you have a problem with an action
taken by a List Guide you may address that with their manager(s) by
sending mail to lg-manager(at)hwg.org .

3. Who are the HWG-Jobs List Guides?
======================================================

Individuals Currently Volunteering for HWG-Jobs:

HWG-Jobs List Guides:  <lg-jobs(at)hwg.org>
    Judith Kallos

List Guides are available to answer any questions or concerns you may
about the list by emailing the address above.

4. How do I volunteer to become a List Guide?
==========================================

Want to get involved with the HTML Writers Guild? Helpful
organized individuals willing to share their time and experience
with the HTML Writers Guild's List Guide Program can volunteer
to become a List Guide. We currently have several openings in
the List Guide Roster for those seeking a fun and rewarding
opportunity. If you enjoy helping others and have been an HWG
Member for at least three months, email: lg-manager(at)hwg.org for
details and an application.

5. How do I subscribe and unsubscribe?
=====================================================

When sending out a subscribe or unsubscribe message, subject
information is NOT needed. Do NOT include your E-Mail address in
the subscribe message. If you have any problems with subscribing
or unsubscribing, please send E-Mail to <owner-hwg-jobs(at)hwg.org>
or to the List Guides <lg-jobs(at)hwg.org>

To subscribe from the HWG Jobs List
you need to send a message to:

hwg-jobs-request(at)hwg.org
In the body of the message type: subscribe

To UNsubscribe from the HWG Jobs List
you need to send a message to:

hwg-jobs-request(at)hwg.org
In the body of the message type: unsubscribe

For information about subscribing to the list, please see:
<http://www.hwg.org/lists/hwg-jobs/index.html#1>

For information about UNsubscribing to the list, please see:
<http://www.hwg.org/lists/hwg-jobs/index.html#4>

6. Can I subscribe to the list without getting so much E-Mail?
======================================================

A "digest" version of the list is available. By subscribing to the digest
version of the hwg-jobs mailing list, you receive a group of posts
in one E-Mail message. That way, instead of getting individual messages
every day from the list, you would get 1 or 2 which contain all of the posts
from that day/week.

For information about subscribing to the Digest version, please see:
<http://www.hwg.org/lists/hwg-jobs/index.html#2>

For information about UNsubscribing to the Digest version, please see:
<http://www.hwg.org/lists/hwg-jobs/index.html#5>

7. How do I send a message to the list?
=====================================================

Only posts by the List Guide Team will be sent out to this List as it is a
one way moderated list. All employment, help wanted, contract or
volunteer opportunities must be sent to the List Guide Team for review and
approval /prior/ to posting. To review the correct procedure please review
the site below, before submitting your post to the List Guides:

<http://www.hwg.org/lists/hwg-jobs/faq.html>

8. What if I am no longer receiving posts from the list?
=====================================================

Does the email you subscribed with have an autoresponder attached to it?

Autoresponders and ISP problems that create bounced messages can
cause the list's filters to automatically unsubscribe you from the
list.  If you
went on vacation or were away from your email and an autoresponder took
your place, most likely you were unsubscribed and will need to resubscribe
to once again to receive the opportunities sent to the list.

9. What is the HWG-Jobs mailing list?
======================================================

The HWG-Jobs List is a one way moderated list used by the HTML Writers
Guild to post job opportunities (contract, full-time, part-time, volunteer)
related to the development and maintenance of a Web site. This includes,
but is not limited to, content development, page and site design, graphic
artwork, programming, and Web site maintenance.

Information on the HWG-Jobs List can be found at the URL below:

<http://www.hwg.org/lists/hwg-jobs/index.html>
