My name is Ollie Faison and I am working on a project mandated by Congress
to define job skills, training, and standards for people working in the IT
and telecommunications industries. This project is under the auspices of
the National Skills Standards Board (NSSB) in cooperation with the Computing
Technology Industry Association (CompTIA).

I am recruiting first-level workers from IT, Telecommunications companies,
and other organizations who will participate in a one-day focus group in
Hillsboro, OR (a suburb of Portland) on January 31, 2002. I want one or
more members of the HTML Writer's Guild to participate in these focus
groups.

Participants must come from one of these states: Oregon, Washington,
California, Nevada, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Hawaii
and Alaska.

In a nutshell, the NSSB has gathered subject matter experts who have defined
the standards for web development, database development and administration,
and programming. They now want these standards reviewed by people who
atually do the work. This includes people who do the following jobs:

* Internet Operations and Maintenance--Develop web pages, install server
software and hardware, or manage servers, etc.

* Database Development & Adminstration--Design and maintain databases,
implement back up and recovery processes; maintain database system
   security and reliability, etc.

* Programmers--Write and debug code as directed by a supervisor, Software
Engineers and/or Systems Analysts. Analyze, design, develop, adapt,
test and maintain computer and Internet-based applications. Use
development tools and programming languages to create and test
   software, etc.

Each participant will receive a $200 honorarium for participating. If
participants must fly into the host city (Portland), their travel is paid.
Their company will receive a full copy of the final standards report and a
certificate of participation. In addition, if someone you recommend is
accepted, you will receive $25.

To qualify, a participant must have been working in their field for the
past 18 months and must have completed any probationary period with their
employer. Participation is also open to consultants who have more than 18
months of work experience. You may also participate if you have been laid
off within the last 3 months and meet all other criteria.

We are looking for people from large companies (more than 1,000 people)
and from small companies (less than 1,000 people). We need people who work
who work in all types of companies; we want to make sure as many industries
as possible are represented.

If you want to participate, know anyone who would like to participate,
or have any other questions, please contact me by e-mail (ofaison(at)att.net)
or phone 770.492.0144. Due to the nature of my work, e-mail is a more
efficient way to reach me.

Please be assured that this is a legitimate request to participate in a
focus study for the federal government. It is very important that you let
your voice be heard in this study.

I will be happy to talk to you about this and I appreciate your consideration.

Thank you,

Ollie Faison (ofaison(at)att.net)
