runtime error--'platform' undefined

Hi,

I came across this JScript error message on a site, and I'm just curious
what it means:

   A Runtime Error has occurred.
   Error: 'platform' is undefined

The debugger then highlights this line of code:

   if ((platform == 'windows') && (netscape)) {

I'm not at all familiar with JScript.  Can someone tell me what's wrong
there?
