My apologies to those who have html enabled mail, I use pine myself during
the day and forget these things. :)

Below is the code that browsers 4.0 and above recognize as a request for it
to look for the appropriate program to open the document in it's native
format. You will put target="_blank" inside the "a" tag.

The only draw back is that if the user's computer is slow it will take a
great deal of time to open the program and then open the file in that
program. But it does work so long as they have the program loaded on their
machine.

We have been doing this for years, never a complaint.
