If you type a url in directly there is no $HTTP_REFERER
put
<? phpinfo() ?>
on your page and you can see all available variables.

Subject: PHP3 and HTTP_REFERRER
| I'm making my first foray into PHP, and I'm wondering if there's some kind
| of gotcha that I don't know about. I'm doing something as simple as:
|
| <?php echo( $HTTP_REFERRER ) ?>
|
| but I get nothing. For other HTTP variables like USER_AGENT, the above
| works. Yes, I'm going to the page through a link - not through bookmarks
| or by hand typing the URL into the browser. Is this some kind of server
| misconfiguration?
