Foresaw the problem? How so... they caused it, by doing things in an
incompatible manner.

True, a year base of 1900 is hardly elegant, and the computer architectures
that inspired same (and once benefited from it) no longer are an issue. But
the issue here is only of elegance, hardly of functionality. As far as the
problem of ignorance and bad coding, that can be addressed by RTFM.
