After further investigation, I realize that I need to be able to access the=
spans by number, not name. Are "spans/divs" referenced in a collection?=
  Can I do anything like:

document.spans[1].style .etc.etc.etc

???? Because if this is possible I sure can't find any info on it! *g*

phil.

p.s. Several people suggested the eval() function in JavaScript to allow=
using the name to reference the span, but this would require passing the=
name of the spans I want to hide as well as the ones I want to show.=
However, if I can reference the spans by number then I can just use a=
'for' loop to run through all of them and set them to=
 show/hide/visible/hidden as required.

tia!
