This is an interesting one.  I learned Java at uni and my final year 
project was web-based with PHP.  Although I found it awkward at 
first, I was able to get my way around it quite quickly.

Give it some time, and if you still don't like it, you could always 
look into using servlets and/or JSP.

To be honest, I think that web programming in general makes it 
difficult to write good OO code, because I have the same problem 
with JSP (although mitigated through the use of JavaBeans).
