.stm is the default extension IIS has for SSI. Don't ask me why. Probably a
throwback to NT 3.51. 

You may also want to make sure SSI is enabled. In the IIS Manager, open the
Properties for your web site. Then go to the Home Directory tab and click on
the Configuration... button. In the list of apps that comes up, look for
.stm in the Extensions column and make sure the executable path is to
C:\WINNT\System32\inetsrv\ssinc.dll.

Thanks for the reply - .shtml was my second try, no go.
