Hello,

I am considering bringing the servers (currently only 2 of them serving 300
Virtual Hosts) in house. (Currently coloing).

I have been doing some investigating into pricing through WorldCom.

T-1 Installation is $1995 CDN. ( we are in Canada).
Monthly Costs $995 CDN based on 128Kbps sustained, tiering up to $1895 CDN
for full T-1 throughput.

Tiering is based on the average lower 95% of monthly usage checked every 5
min (If I understood correctly).

Some questions:

I calculated 128Kbps to be (60s x 60m x 24h x 31d /8 (bits per byte)) to
come out to a monthly transfer rate of 42,854,400,000 or 43 GB. Did I
calculate this correctly? (This assumes we throttle the connection at
128Kbps, which leads to the next question,

How does one throttle the connection to avoid HUGE spikes?

Currently, we are being charged $4/100MB of transfer (above out 1GB free
limit). Does this seem reasonable? We are considering getting on the colo
business ourselves and want to come up with a fair pricing plan, which leads
to the next question,

How do other colo companies price bandwidth?

WorldCome tells me they take care of setup right from the POP back,
including IPs, so my next question is (pretty basic),

What all is needed for a basic hosting setup? If I understand correctly,

T-1 to the office -> ROUTER(Cisco 1604) -> Switch -> (hubs id necessary) ->
servers.

(Just the network connection part, forget about UPSs and Halon thats already
taken care of).

Thanks for your thoughts!
