OK, so put a Perl script onsite that reads a text file containing the common
section when given the manual command to do so, and then "publishes" the
HTML files onsite by reading them in, and back out with the changes (to temp
files, then rename...or to a temp directory, then rename the directory...)
...
I often make changes to common areas of one client's site or another...for
me, it means uploading changed files daily. Bandwidth and labor hours. For
you, maybe its different...but you do need to replace the functionality of
the SSI with something of equal functionality...including ease of use...for
your client.
The bottom line is that the computer should do the work...whether SSI or a
publishing utility or whatever...thats what they are for...:).
