I'm assuming you installed DNS from the CD and then reapplied the service
pack, then restarted, then went to admin tools, DNS Manager to choose New
Server and got told that the service hadn't started.
This can be caused by traces of a third-party DNS being on the server. I.e.
trying to run two DNSs at once. Did you get any other error in event viewer?
Is it a primary or a secondary? So what OS and service pack are you using?
