I'm going to suggest picking up one of the O'Reilly Internet administration
books. You'll need to learn the basics of the Domain Name System... domain
names, delegation and hierarchy of names, host names.

The Internet reference is STD 13, the Domain Name System... a concise and
quite specific document... too concise for many people's taste, perhaps.
Available from any of the usual suspects RFC repositories.

What you likely need to do is register somewhere.com.au, and then establish
www.something. ... in your DNS setup. Any decent network administrator can
handle such a task. If you're not comfortable with it, I'd suggest finding
someone to provide DNS service for you (for a modest fee), since this is an
area where the devil is in the details.

ps. BTW, there was a serious security bug in MSIE's handling of cookies, as
I recall, with the domain structure you describe. Likely it is fixed in
current versions, but they've had so bleepin' many serious security flaws
in that product (and some reintroduction of fixed holes) that it is hard to
keep track of... just something to consider if you do use cookies.
