Thank you for replying.

I sorted it out 5 minutes ago - Isn't that always the way :-)

The reason it wasn't working was I was missing the semi-colon at the end of
the command, which is why it was returning -> rather than mysql> and
wanting another command. Also, the "mysqladmin reload" command has to be
run from the telnet prompt, so you need to exit mysql to run it and I was
trying to run it from the -> prompt.

It's amazed me how much I've learned today. I'll probably not use what I've
picked up for another 6 months and have the same problems :-)
