Ornery Visual Page Problems!by "Celtic Lass" <celtic(at)skypoint.com> |

Hello, everyone! I've been lurking about on the list for several months and now I finally have a question I hope some folks can help me with. I have begun to use Visual Page for the majority of my page creation. Previously, I used a notepad replacement called EditPad (which I very highly recommend, btw!) However, I've noticed that in Visual Page, there are certain tags it doesn't seem to support, and align="justify" is one of them. Now it so happens that I'm a justification freak and cannot give up this attribute just because Visual Page wants to get pushy! So I go ahead into the source and edit the HTML, only to find that when I save the corrected page, Visual Page "empties out" the attribute I place there! It does the same thing for an incorrect adjustment...so for example, when I put "<div align="justify">" and save the page, Visual Page renders it down to "<DIV>" and that's it. It does this for anything it cannot recognize, such as a misspelling like "<div align="cnetre">" or what have you. What I want to know is, has anyone else found this to be a problem and can it be worked around?!?! Is there any way to shut off this extremely obnoxious "auto-correct" function which Visual Page has? My second question has to do with another piece of software used in conjunction with Visual Page: 1 Cool Button Tool. This is a really, really nifty little tool which allows one to quickly and easily make their own java button applets. It will do everything for you, and even has a function to copy the HTML to your clipboard so you can simply paste it into your source. Saves hours of time, and it's fun to play with, too :) Well, of course, all I get when I plug the applets I create with Button Tool into the code through Visual Page is grey boxes. Once in a while I'll get the "null expression" error message at the bottom of the browser, while I'm trying to tweak it and figure out what on Earth is wrong with it. So far, no luck. Now, the applets I create using Button Tool work perfectly well in all the browsers I test it in, and if I open the Visual Page html document in Edit Pad and paste in the applet, with a bit of minor tweaking here and there it displays wonderfully well, just like it displays justified text when I include it in the "EditPad" version of the webpage I'm working on. But when I pull that corrected document into Visual Page, resplendent with justified text and happily "java-fied" buttons, and save that page in Visual Page, everything goes whacko. No justification, and no cute little buttons. Just centered text and grey boxes :) So, I've gone through a lot of energy and aggravation and finally decided to bemoan my fate here. Can anyone shed a little insight? I'm very sorry that I don't have a URL to offer as a test subject to see what I'm talking about, but I never upload pages until they're finished...or at least in "beta" testing :) I always do so much changing round and editing that I'd have to re-upload the pages a thousand times before I am finally satisfied! I appreciate any help with this that anyone can offer, and all the other tons and tons of useful information I've gleaned while lurking here. Thanks so much :) Take care, Jo
