Perplexing Problem with IE4by "Kevin Dyck" <kdyck(at)styluscreative.ca> |
|
After accumulating enough system bugs to turn whats left of my hair gray I finally broke down and reformatted my hard drive then re-installed everything. Most of the bugs are gone now, except for this one: Whenever I use either Internet Explorer 4 or Outlook Express my system freezes. the only way out of it is to re-boot. This occurs when I'm online and I try to scroll down the screen (not immediately, but it doesn't take long). It only happens with Microsoft products, and only when I'm online. I thought maybe there was a problem with the dial up networking so I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded version 1.2 as well as Winsock version 2, and seemed to fix it - for a day. Now it's doing it again. I'm using the latest versions of IE4 and Outlook Express. I also have Netscape and Eudora on the system, but they cause no problems. I am using a Cyrix 6x86 200MHz (non MX) chip - could that be part of it? If anyone out there has run into this as well I would appreciate some help. This has got me completely stumped.
