Mapping software for webserver

Hi:

I would be interested in garnering any information from those that have used
any mapping software for the internet.  We are just starting a business with
the idea of generating street level mapping from GPS positions gathered from
interrogating a GPS unit across North America.  Of particular interest is
the mapping software used or the software that you did not use with reasons
why you did not use it, the problems we can expect, the costs associated
with it and any other tid bits of information we should know or should be
aware of.  In addition, was any particular hardware used and why?

Any help would very much be appreciated.
