I've installed Apache on Win98 several times -  I typically use it on
laptop machines to give demos to clients.

First off, what is your installation error?

I think your teacher is incorrect saying that you need an ethernet card
installed. Once apache is installed, the only thing you need to do is go
to the httpd.conf file and type in your server name, which can be just
about anything if you're just looking to run stuff locally.

Now, it may be true that you need TCP/IP networking installed on your
machine (in your Network control panel). Every install I've ever done has
already had TCP/IP installed, so I'm unsure about this one.

As far as Cold Fusion, do you have the server version as well? Cold Fusion
Studio is just the IDE, you'll need Cold Fusion Server or Cold Fusion
Express to actually serve Cold Fusion pages.

Finally, Apache needs some simple configuration in order to server Cold
Fusion pages, as well as a Cold Fusion module. These are available on
Allaire's site, or I have the files on my box, if you'd like me to
send them or make them available through anonymous FTP.
