I'm not an HTML expert, but I don't think this is possible.
I think the only solution would be to create the pages dinamicly using a
program running on the server, like Perl, PHP, ASP, Cold Fusion, etc.

ann,
i've been trying to figure this out too and, so far, the only
way i've been able to keep a nested div from inheriting the width of its
container is to specify a width for it.  It's rather unfortunate,
really, because it sure would be nice to be able to have a div's width
set dynamically by the amount of data (or the length of the string)
loaded into it.

let me know if you figure anything out.
