Surely the width is being overridden by the right and left properties =
you've
got set?

PS, I'm not sure why you explicitly set the bottom as auto, when you =
already
specify a height

  left: 0;
  right: 0;

and IE is not calculating the width at all. Is there a way to resize an
absolutely positioned block element on the fly?
