There's also the caveat of the source of the information -- in this case, it
has been collected via JavaScript, so is not comprehensive.

I'm sure the final upshot is you're working out how wide you can make your
pages (I doubt you care for the length)? In which case, don't go wider than
600px, as that's the same width as a printed page -- Do you know how
annoying it is to get printouts chopped?

Regardless, I tend to advocate for flexible layouts that always fill as wide
as they can without overflowing beyond 600px, but they will scale up to many
thousands of pixels wide.

What about accessibility?  My mother has a 19 inch monitor and still uses
640 x 480 so she can read the text easier.  I'm sure that people with vision
problems are a small minority, but should they be ignored?

About half of people browsing sites are doing so at 800 x 600. The next
most popular is 1024 x 768 (at about 35%). 640 x 480 only now accounts for
about 3%.
