You will have a hard time getting netscape to support any style until the
new version comes out.

Thanks. That was it. It just isn't shown in my Style Edit software (that
came with Homesite). I added it manually to the CSS and tried it, but
guess what (think hard): NN4.6 doesn't support the vertical-align
property. Doh!

So it's back to SUP.
