Perl has nothing to do with ColdFusion. They coexist just fine, however
you can't fun CF and Perl script in the same page very easily. You can
however have separate pages coded in either script, all on the same
server and same site.

CF Server allows for the set up of any ODBC Datasource in the CF Admin;
you don't have to go directly through ODBC.

You wouldn't update the database by "uploading", per say. You would need
to use SQL commands to add, delete and edit the data. With some
databases, such as MS SQL Server you don't even have the option to
"upload". A MS SQL Server database cannot be uploaded by FTP.

She should expect normal "Host Provider" type of support. However asking
your host to tell you how to code your site is not support... that's
called training. :]
