My point was simply this: mysql will do what you want by itself. If you
want to present this
information on a web site and/or build a web interface to input/edit items
in the database, then
php is a great way to go.
You should visit the msyql web site - www.mysql.com and also read some of
the mysql
newsgroup archives.

What I am trying to do is create a cross-referenced Database, actually 2
databases, linked to each other. The first would be for applications and
resumes, the other is to access the 900 odd companies I already have done.
I
cannot afford to pay anyone at this time, but as this will be a paid for by
use database, perhaps I could work something out with someone???

Of course she only need php if she's going to make database backed web
pages.
PHP and MySQL are a perfect match for web pages.
For general database use php is not needed.
