I agree with Manish. Sounds like a decent way to do it. Good placements are
hard to get and you don't want to mess with it once you have it.
Why not have both domains point to the same web space? That way you never
have to make the change, just try to get the .com placed as good as you can.

It would be wise NOT to use a HTML redirect as the SEs do not like it much
(refer to www.searchenginewatch.com for details)
I suggest you add a line (in bold and large font size) to the index.html
page, something like...
The website is in the process of shifting to mysite.com. Please update your
bookmarks.
You can then start submitting mysite.com to the SEs. Once you get a high
ranking on them with mysite.com, remove mysite.net
