I don't think the .htaccess file will be where you'd want to make these
settings or if it's even possible.  The sure-fire way to prevent
unauthorized access to the directory is to just place an index.html file in
every directory that you don't want them snooping in.  You could even have
that index.html redirect them to an error page.
