The MySQL site has (*very*) recently ungone a complete facelift as well as
undertaking MaxSQL and the VA Linux colab. Since I don't have time to
rummage through the MySQL list archives, I'll leave that up to anyone who
cares. At the time of the GPL announcement, the end of June, this topic was
beaten to death on that list. The infusion of capital from VA Linux is to
(ROUGHLY QUOTED) "offset the loss of income from Windows licenses, now that
there won't be any more." Incidentally, that list also mentions that it
may be a while before they get around to including this update in the
downloads of the Windows version, so the old license agreement may still be
included, creating confusion.

I get a particular chuckle out of this page:

Well, actually, I *did* go back to the archives.

To quote Sinisa Milivojevic, "No licence is there no more." Sinisa is one
of the core developers and a non-native speaker of English ;)

At any rate, we stay very close to MySQL development, since our lead
developer is a contributor and our main product interfaces heavily with
MySQL.
