Agreed - I use the liquid approach myself as a matter of course.  The client
actually has to specify differently to get a fixed width...:). I browse at
1600x1200 and often have more than one window visible.

your other note about making it fluid. I just think that
such designs should be made fluid in the first place. ;-)

I use 1280x1024 resolution, but I don't browse with my
browser full screen. A resolution like 740 sounds
suspiciously to me like they are designing for
"800x600" resolution but assuming that the browser is
running full screen.
