All PHP vs. ASP debates aside, I must alert you to the fact that ASP
scripting will change (actually, has changed in Beta form) and that if you
learn VBScript now, you'll likely need to throw it out the window later this
year. That is because VBScript will be a thing of the past in the new ASP
version, which will only support C#, VB.Net and JScript.Net.

Now, there's no reason why you can't use the current version of ASP (version
3.0) and merrily be on your way writing in either JScript or VBScript, but
if you want continued support on any issues that arise, Microsoft won't help
you once .NET final is released.

FYI: We currently use ASP 3.0. We don't have any immediate plans to
upgrade to .NET when it's released.

I like the idea behind PHP because it doesn't adhere to any corporate,
proprietary standards, but I've only dabbled in it and couldn't offer you a
side-by-side comparison at this point. The important thing is to keep in
mind this transition of ASP coming this year.
