You might find this page useful to see what works in NS and what doesn't -
then you'll know if you can tweak your styles in the hope of getting them to
work better, or if it isn't worth the bother:

IME, NS often adds huge margins if you specify a margin value for any block
element (it seems to add space to the browser defaults instead of
substituting the style values).
I have reluctantly gone back to using table properties (cellpadding etc) for
now - until NS4 has a much smaller user population). Or, as you say, using
superfluous <.p>s inside cells.
I don't believe it supports list-style-image at all. (NS4 needs URLs to be
relative to the calling page rather than the stylesheet, AFAICR - but the
bullet image never shows.)
