You're in luck :-)
IE 5.0 and 5.5 have native functions for this (though they can certainly be
expanded upon) - I built a very detailed WYSIWYG html editor in JavaScript
for my last job that had full drag and drop formatting capabilities. For a
simpler version, the attached file should have enough information to get you
started. There are quite a few more commands available than what I have
shown - see the O'Reilly Dynamic HTML book for more details of what you can
do with document.execCommand
With the attached page you can create a blank document, or load one from the
same host (just add query string ?editPage=somePage.html). You can look at
the 'view html' button to get an idea how you could post the result to a
database
If you'd like information on how to add other features, I'll be happy to
tell you what I know :-) Before being laid off recently, I spent over a year
working on a very cool editor that I can't show off because of
non-disclosure agreements . . .

Subject: suggestions please
Hi all!
Background:
I'm building a prototype intranet for our company.
Audience is all IE 5.5+. The site is currently using
ASP, XML and SQLServer 7.0 on IIS, with the idea that
we'll use the .Net platform once it comes out.
I want to give certain users the ability to update
their pages without knowing HTML. I'm thinking I'll
want the content to all be in a database with the
pages accessing the contents on the fly.
My problem:
How do I give my users the ability to update basic
HTML without them knowing HTML? Is there a simple
WYSIWYG editor that I could include in an HTML (or ASP
or whatever) page on the site that will post the
resulting HTML to a database for storage?
TIA
Rebecca
