Sorry I can't reply individually to everyone who wrote with helpful
suggestions and moral support, but thanks to you all.
Comments: in contrast to what Brandon says, I think that reproducing someone
else's work wholesale and putting it onto a site with a different look and
feel so it seems to be one of a piece with the site, *does* count as
pinching it. OK, my email address is there, but there's no indication that
the copy came from WebRef, nor that there is a more up-to-date copy on one
of my sites, so it won't generate any site traffic. I agree with him that
it's not as bad as taking out all reference to the author.
Anyway, thanks to the suggestions I managed to find the upstream provider
for the site (tracert is very tedious when you normally use a router!), and
in the meantime, an email to the domain holder has provoked an initially
encouraging reply - I'll see if they actually do remove the article. I'm
getting WebRef on the case too.
If all else fails, I'll put a notice on my sites pointing to the piracy
(some people will read it and think, if nothing else), then think about
following the legal route though not sure if my IP is worth the cost of
registered post around the globe <G>
TX again, Lois
