Just one note about that whole "portal" thing...

I strongly recommend that the index page as well as several other pages and
a site map be static "html" pages.  It gives spiders something to look at
and it means that if something goes wrong your whole site doesn't disappear.

I've seen that happen.  One glitch in the "portal" and the whole site blows
up.
