I'll wade into this little war only to say:

You can use ADO methods in ASP that also provide for implicit database
queries as opposed to explicitly writing out every step of the way. This
reduces the amount of code necessary to write.

Implicit code has its drawbacks, however, regardless of platform and
environment.

I think that more important than "my environment can do it in fewer
characters than yours" would be a productive work practice that provides
reusable code.

The notion that ASP development necessarily requires longer timeframe and
missed deadlines is a bit disengenuous.

And keep in mind that at this time, ASP.NET is emerging. It is not an
upgrade to ASP but rather an entirely new animal. It will change the playing
field significantly. If you are interested in doing much with little code,
.NET will interest you.

That said, I don't believe that the shortest code snippet to achieve "X" is
always the most efficient, even though I do attempt to achieve the same
'elegance' that any other programmer does. Legibility, code re-use, and the
most flexible (= powerful) ways to exploit database capabilities are more
important than brevity for brevity's sake.

And for the sake of brevity ( if it isn't already too late), I will shut up.

Regards,
Michael
