Valid alternatives

Checking a page against the W3C validator I found out that onMouseOver and
onMouseOut are not considered valid XHTML are there any alternatives.
Removing them gave me valid XHTML but I would like to use an onMouseOver at
least because this gives a translation to Chinese or to English.
