Richard,
    First piece of advice I would offer is to provide some back buttons on
the pages off your index page as having to keep pressing the Back button is
not the best navigation and people are more likely to go to another page
they are thinking about.
    Some Dhtml rollovers or Jscript rollovers would be nice for the design
it looks like you are using fireworks so that will be easy.
