I glanced at the XHTML 2.0 draft, and it's not pretty for those of you who
have already spent the time going through your code to convert from HTML 4
to XHTML 1.0. Looks like you'll be updating again very soon.
Radical changes are in store, including the outright elimination of certain
tags and a total revamp of how forms are coded. To top it all off, XHTML
2.0 is the first version designed *NOT* to be backward compatible!
Other major changes:
1. No more <.img> tag
2. Say bye-bye to the <.br> tag
3. <.b></b>, <.i><./i>, <.strong><./strong> and <.em><./em> are all gone.
4. Total redesign of forms, known as XFORMS
Read all about it here (this is on IBM's site, and as they are a W3C member,
it's not surprising that they are making this sound like a win-win):
http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/library/wa-xhtml/?n-wa-9192
And here:
http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml2/
It's interesting to me that they are making all these changes when the major
browsers out there basically force XHTML through HTML parsers, leaving us
with the annoying task of trying to make these pages look right universally.
