 Not sure about them, but I was very dissapointed in the CIWS certification
program I took during Spring semester. It was very poorly written and much
more expensive than normal webmaster type classes.  CIWS appears to make
more money on this program than the schools that teach it.  Too bad the
product is so shoddy.

 Two other experienced students compared notes with me during break one
night and we noticed that more companies were looking for experienced web
types than were looking for ones with a certification.  We talked about it
and decided we three would not hire someone based on CIWS certification
unless they were the only person to apply and the market was very tight.

 The class I had attended was at a local college.  The instructior had a
teaching degree and he taught computer classes almost as a hobby. He spent
most of the time reading from the books we had. He was not a webmaster.....
he had a website but someone else maintained it for him. There were dozens
of times where he got lost while teaching or the material was written
wrong.

 50% of thist class was on the subject of networking.  We got deep into it
with explanations of all the protocols,  but they didn't show us any
components or tools or even a BNC or RJ-45 jack.  Not sure what the intent
of that was.

 It was all theory and no hands-on. We spent a lot of time on HTML but it
was generic.  There was no discussion about versions let alone mention what
tags are deprecated or anything.  XML was on short paragraph.  It was all
pretty much plain vanilla.  They say you get into it more later on, but I
suspect that you get taught Dreamweaver and no substantive information.
