I want to thank you all for your responses. I have gotten good information
from all of you, and although I am still undecided, I am giving everything a
once over in the contract.
Let me explain the situation a little bit further.
The "client" is also a friend. We had no formal contract written when I
first did the sight (http://www.inkraven.com/). But, since he has finally
finished with his product database and we can move forward, I have gone
ahead and written up a contract.
When I originally did the site, he did not mind the links, and I assumed he
would not mind removing all but one. But he pointed out some reasons why
(the main being customers leaving the site), and after talking for about 20
minutes, I finally opened a browser and showed off various sites at random,
explaining that most sites that don't have a link to a company most likely
have someone whom they hired full time to do their page, or have a
person/design department internally that does it. We are definitely not in
the same business, so I really do believe that a prospective customer
wouldn't leave unless they aren't interested in his products, and they
wouldn't visit his page unless they were anyway.
I will be joining the HWG-Business list. Again, thank you all for your
responses.
Sincerely,
Jami, the ever learning newbie
