Other Netscape Woes: table spacing

I'm also having a problem in Netscape that I've been tearing my hair out
over...

I created a table with a background gif image, just a solid color. The
effect looks fine in IE, but Netscape adds extra white spaces in between
every <TR> and <TD>. I set the table cellpadding and cellspacing to zero,
which I thought would take care of it.
