I have some font design tips on this page that might be useful:

but the general rule is to know what the common fonts are on all platforms
and make sure they are all in your font spec list (hint in the above page).
A good tip to test your own pages: set all your test browsers to use an
unusual font (I use the rather ugly geo slab serif) and you can easily see a
forgotten paragraph wit the wrong font.
